InSIDE NorthEast fundraising for an ultrasound (USG) machine at Saikul Community Health Centre

The eruption of large-scale ethnic violence in the state of Manipur on May 3rd, 2024, claimed the lives of hundreds, and more than 60000 people were displaced, among whom over forty thousand affected people belong to the Kuki community. The ethnic conflict also led to the geographical separation of the two communities. Healthcare facilities primarily accessible in the Valley are no longer accessible to the Kuki communities due to the ongoing ethnic conflict. The Inside Northeast team recognised the pressing need for Pregnant Women, specifically in the displaced relief camps, who bore the brunt of the absence of essential diagnostic services and ultrasound services.

Pregnant women in the area must travel more than five hours through rugged and hilly terrain to avail Ultrasound facilities, as the only healthcare facility in the area, Saikul Community Health Centre, does not provide these services. While some can afford to travel for medical needs, many displaced pregnant women are unable to travel due to poverty, and as a result, the unborn baby and the mother are deprived of their right to health. Given the public health crisis, in which even unborn babies have died due to a lack of limited facilities, the Inside Northeast team recognised a pressing need and requirement for ultrasound machines in the Saikul Community Health Center located in the Kangpokpi district in the Hill Areas of Manipur and initiated this crowdfunding.

On behalf of the displaced people and specifically pregnant mothers, most of whom are displaced by the ethnic conflict, we appealed to NGOs, Philanthropic bodies, and individuals, among others, to support our crowdfunding for an ultrasound (USG) machine at CHC, Saikul.

Peace has various interpretations contingent upon context and personal circumstances. For expectant moms, the assurance of their unborn child’s well-being within the womb constitutes “peace.” Endorsing such “peace” is peacebuilding. Therefore, any contribution made to assist displaced pregnant mothers is considered peacebuilding. Consider your donation as a means of fostering “peace” for expectant moms displaced by ethnic violence.

Every donated amount will be used to acquire the ultrasound (USG) machine. For further details on our organisation’s aims and goals, please refer to our yearly report on our involvement in community social work in the Hill areas of Manipur.
